Document Hierarchy

Document hierarchy refers to the order of precedence that the construction contract documents have over each other. For example, the specification typically overrides the drawings, so if there is a contradiction between the drawings and the details noted in the spec, the specification prevails.

Typically, the document hierarchy will be in the following order, however each contact is different.

  1. Construction contract
  2. Construction specification
  3. Selection schedules/addenda
  4. Architectural drawings
